The Apple Computer Mouse
Mac computer converts are somtimes a bit puzzled by the Apple Computer Mouse:
Unlike a Windows computer mouse, the Mac computer mouse has only one mouse button on top
of the mouse (which in my experience is one of the things that makes a Mac computer easier
to learn how to use than a Windows Computer).
Other than that small difference both types of computer "mice" work pretty much the same way:
- Move the mouse on the mousepad to place the tip of your screen arrow directly over the object that you wish to click on (web page link, hard drive icon,
program or folder icon, etc.
- Hold the mouse very still and press the top mouse button down and then quickly release it
What is the "little wheel" at top center of the mac computer mouse for?
Pressing that wheel (by default) causes your dashboard widgets to appear:
You can make the dashboard widgets disappear by pressing the F12 key on the top row of your Apple Computer Keyboard
or by clicking on a blank area of your computer screen.
I have trouble double-clicking the mouse. Is there a way I can avoid having to do that?
Yes! You can for example, open a folder on your mac computer by clicking on it one time to "select" it:
After the folder that you wish to open has been highlighted or selected, you can then open that folder by
holding down one of the "Command" keys on the bottom row of your computer keyboard and by
pressing the "O" key one time:
If the Apple Computer Mouse has only one mouse button, how do you "right-click" the mouse?
If you wish a "pop-up" menu to appear (the sole reason to "right mouse click"), you can hold down one the "control" keys
on the bottom row of your Apple computer keyboard as you are clicking the mouse:
What about the buttons on the side of the Apple Computer mouse?
The buttons on the side of the mouse can be set to do different things such as trigger the
"Expose" function.
Personally, I've always found the side mouse buttons awkward to press (I tend to forget they're even
there) so I instead use the Apple Keyboard Shortcuts to perform various tasks on my Mac computer (such
as pressing the F12 key to cause my dashboard widgets to display and pressing the F11 key to reveal my
mac computer desktop).
